This piece was created for every single little girl who grew up learning that the rules that applied to them were not the same rules that applied to their male counterparts. The girls who were told that the way they dressed, walked, spoke, and presented themselves mattered more than their character, thoughts, and capabilities. The girls who were encouraged to appease the good ol’ boy’s club, so as not to ruffle any feathers. Go along to get along, right? The little girls who were trained to seek jobs that fit the traditional “woman’s role”- and more importantly, avoid the jobs that were “men’s work.”

You don’t have to fit yourself into the box they built for you. Most of the last 15 years of my life have been spent figuring out which pieces to dismantle and whether to use them as fuel or lumber to build the future I want for myself.
